Palace Concert Review

Iron City Birmingham has seen several talented acts, and the Palace show on Wednesday, February 26th was certainly no exception. The four-piece indie alt-rock band, owned the stage with smooth-like-butter vocals, backed by atmospheric and mellow instrumentals.

Palace transports their listeners to a calmer place. With lyrics about love, growth and human emotion, Palace has a true ability to captivate with their music.

The band opened with instrumental track, Cocoon, followed ironically by Goodnight, Farewell bringing the tempo build-up and anticipation for the rest of the show.

A few standout moments from the 19-track set included So Long Forever, Greyhound, Live Well, Let’s Go Swimming and Bitter

So Long Forever ignited the crowd at Iron City, with its groovy guitar riffs and high-energy tempo, setting the tone for a great show. Greyhound, both lyrically and vocally, is one of my all-time favorites. Its dreamy, uplifting theme also resonated with the audience who sang along to the chorus in unison. The band’s most famous hit, Live Well also provided a great singalong moment. Let’s Go Swimming, the band’s latest release, brought a surge of excitement, energizing the crowd. Bitter, the final track before the encore, had everyone singing and dancing in pure joy.

The band wrapped up the show with Veins, the very first song they ever wrote, providing a perfect conclusion to the high-energy performance.

Overall, I really enjoyed seeing Palace’s music come to life live. They’re one of those bands that sound even better in concert, with lead singer Leo Wyndham’s vocals really capturing you. His voice has this way of jumping off the stage and connecting with you on a deeper level. Palace has a quality that really reminds me of early Coldplay—there’s this sweeping, emotional vibe in their music that just hits differently when you hear it live.

If you’re looking for some essential bread-and-butter indie to add to your next playlist, I highly recommend Palace, and certainly recommend experiencing them live in concert!
